Rice University's Advanced Placement Summer Institute International

In 2020, Rice University hosts its 2nd Annual AP International Summer Institute in San Jose, Costa Rica at La Universidad Latinoamericana de Ciencia y Tecnologia (ULACIT).

Courses are led by experienced, enthusiastic and dedicated College Board-endorsed lead consultants who have a broad range of knowledge and proven ability presenting to their peers. Instructors for 2020 include AP test development committee members, AP exam readers, winners of special recognition awards from the College Board and winners of regional and national teaching awards.

WHEN: Each course meets Tuesday through Friday, Aug. 4-7, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Reigster by May 4 to receive the early registration rate (a savings of $50).

EARLY FEE: $545 if registering by May 4
STANDARD FEE: $595 if registering May 5-July 20
LATE FEE: $645 if registering after July 20

Tuition includes College Board Exam Resources, course materials, parking and lunch.

Plaza de la cultura

This plaza located in the center of downtown is the social and cultural heart of San Jose. Filled with street performers, vendors and various celebrations, tourists flock to Plaza de la cultura to get a real sense of all that San Jose streetlife has to offer.

National Museum

Housed in the old Bellavista Fortress, this museum displays the history and culture of Costa Rica from pre-Columbian times to the present day. The museum's observation deck highlights the beauty of the city with stunning vistas of San Jose.

Pre-Columbian Gold Museum

Often praised as one of the best attractions in the city, this museum offers an extraordinary collection of gold artwork, ornaments and monuments from the pre-Columbian era. Visitors are invited to explore the rich cultural relationship between Latin American countries and this precious metal.

The National Theater

Opened to the public in 1897, the Teatro Nacional is one of San Jose's most admired structures. Visitors marvel at artwork and architecture on self-guided tours and experience free musical programs several times during the week.
